In anticipation of students moving up to grade  nine the next year, the government  plans to build 16,000 classrooms across the  country, according to Dr. Belio Kipsang,  Principal Secretary for Basic Education.

The World Bank’s Vice President for Human Development, Mamta Murthi, visited  Olympics Primary School in Kibra Subcounty, Nairobi, where Dr. Kipsang explained  this  concept.

In his speech, Dr. Kipsang outlined the government’s intention to build 10 additional classrooms to accommodate the learners transitioning to grade nine. He welcomed support and partnership with the World Bank to further enhance infrastructure at the school.

“We welcome the World Bank to support and partner with the government to build even more classrooms in this school,” Kipsang said.

Mamta Murthi praised Kenya for achieving strong education outcomes, emphasizing that the country’s schooling system effectively imparts knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values to students.

She acknowledged Kenya’s success in achieving high enrolment rates in schools, highlighting the pivotal role education plays in determining a country’s future.

Deputy County Commissioner, Odidi Otieno, affirmed the government’s commitment to ensuring a 100 percent transition of learners from primary to secondary education. The dedication to providing accessible and quality education is evident in the proactive measures being taken.

The Headteacher of Olympics Primary School, Mr. Cyrus Okumu, attributed the school’s substantial learner population of 5,108 to a supportive teaching and non-teaching staff, creating a friendly learning environment.

He emphasized the importance of good pedagogy in creating positive learning experiences, contributing to the continued enthusiasm of children returning to school.

“Children keep coming back to school because of the good learning experiences good pedagogy creates,” Okumu said.

The cooperation between the government and foreign organizations is indicative of  a dedication to improving the educational infrastructure and guaranteeing a smooth  transition for students in Kenya.
