Mwangaza Escalates Row with Tycoons to Ruto

On Saturday, Meru Governor Kawira Mwangaza confronted a few affluent people who were allegedly involved in the seizure of land at Mitunguu Airstrip.The Governor brought the situation to the attention of President William Ruto, who was visiting the area and urged the Head of State to step in and reclaim the land that had been taken.

Mwangaza disclosed that of the 340 acres allotted for the airfield, some 140 acres had been appropriated by a few affluent people.”We have an airstrip here and we are asking the president to open it for us,” she said.

Other leaders from the community called upon the National Government to fence the land to prevent more grabbing. Leaders also asked Ruto to continue with the fight against graft.They also called for drastic measures to ensure all corrupt land grabbers keep off the piece of land.

Leaders also demanded that the facility be renovated in order to increase air traffic within the county. Kenyan residents in the area will benefit from the airstrip’s rehabilitation.The leaders said that the airfield need to be comparable to that in the counties of Migori and Garissa.

President Ruto visited and officially opened a number of ongoing projects while on the tour, including the Jitume ICT center, Mwichiune Economic Stimulus Market, Mitunguu Technical and Training Institute, and Mweru Umoja One Irrigation project.”Our investment in technical colleges and ICT hubs guarantees our youth the acquisition of competencies to help them monetise their knowledge and skills,” said Ruto.

The Head of State also promised to cut food imports by 50% over the following five years. He emphasized that the Ksh500 billion food import budget would be reduced in addition to strengthening Kenya’s agricultural industry.Among the other leaders that accompanied Ruto on his three-day tour in Meru was his deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
