Kioni Claims Mt. Kenya Has Abandoned Ruto
On Monday, January 22, Jeremiah Kioni, Secretary General of the Jubilee Party, expressed his opinion that President William Ruto has lost the support of the people of Mount Kenya due to unpopular policies. According to Kioni, this will result in the Head of State losing his position as the region’s preferred presidential candidate in the upcoming general election. In a Monday interview with Spice FM, Kioni discussed the criticism he received from coalition partners like Kileleshwa MCA Robert Alai, who claimed that when the opposition called for statewide protests, there were none in Mount Kenya.
The former member of parliament for Ndaragwa asserted that given the current political climate, the opposition was likely to profit from the anger felt by the people of Mount Kenya. According to him, many of the people in the area who supported the United Democratic Alliance (UDA) in the previous presidential election will offer to work as agents for Azimio.”I had limited resources when I ran in 2007.” Some come to me and tell me that after they found out I had no agents, they took it upon themselves to protect my votes. In Mount Kenya, things will be like that in 2027.
As such, Kioni expressed his firm belief that Mt Kenya will be the voting bloc that will play the decisive role in hounding President William Ruto out of office in 2027.“Let me tell you that even though they may not take part in demonstrations, the people who will force the guy (President Ruto) out, will be Mount Kenya. The percentage of people who have said enough is enough is beyond what we had imagined,” he stated.
Kioni claimed that the current government was so unpopular throughout Kenya, not just in Mount Kenya, where he received more than three million votes. He claimed that the government’s mishandling had made the rule unpopular nationwide. The former MP for Ndaragwa continued, saying that since the current government took office, the macadamia and coffee businesses had suffered significantly.Regarding the issue of discord within Azimio, Kioni informed the organization’s members that any division would only serve Kenya Kwanza.
He continued, “You want to give William (Ruto) more time if you’re one of us and you want to get out and think you can do it alone.A power struggle between Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua and Kiharu MP Ndindi Nyoro about who is the region’s kingpin has recently caused political unrest in Mount Kenya. In order to position Ndindi Nyoro as the UDA running mate in 2027, more than fifteen members of parliament from the ruling UDA party have endorsed her. The legislator’s ultimate goal is to unseat the Head of State in 2032.
