Police seize stolen gov’t subsidised fertilizer in church
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) discovered stolen government fertilizers at the Grace Covenant Church in Narok on Wednesday.252 bags of President William Ruto’s fertiliser that was subsidized as well as other items were found during an operation carried out by the detectives.
The fertilizer at the church was secured under lock and key, and the police said that its caretaker was the farm manager of a businessman residing in Kericho. It was reported that the farm manager had been detained and was being charged with possessing stolen property when he was arraigned before the Milimani Law Court.
“The arraigned suspect was released on a Ksh500,000 cash bail pending the 1st hearing of the case on Friday, January 5, 2024,” the statement began. It is yet unknown to police if the farm hand’s boss took part in the theft as well.
A second suspect who is thought to have supplied the stolen fertilizer is still being sought by the police in the meantime. The second suspect is reportedly a serial dealer who works in the North Rift region, though police have not yet pinpointed the precise location where the fertiliser was taken from.
The suspect had previously run-ins with the law over similar offenses, DCI continued. However, inquiries are still being conducted to find out whether the fertiliser was intended for the market and how it was kept at the church.
