Kenyans To Pay Access Fees To E-Citizen Services
Treasury CS Njuguna Ndung’u mentioned the access charges ranging from Ksh5 to Ksh50 in the Gazette Notice issued on Friday.
The Ministry of Treasury has instituted access fees for eCitizen transactions depending on services sought on the platform.
A small administration fee will be charged by eCitizen.go.ke for each transaction, prorated as follows:
For every $1 spent on the eCitizen platform, the government will impose a transaction fee of one dollar.
The pro-rated adjustments will be applicable to all services provided on the platform, per the notification published in the Kenya Gazette. The charges became operative right away.
Njuguna did, however, say that, depending on the situation, the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning may decide to drop the charges.
Additionally, the CS canceled Gazette Notice No. 1350 of 2023, which authorized a Ksh 50 flat fee for each transaction made on the eCitizen platform.
The revoked notice stated: “Unless otherwise waived by the Cabinet Secretary for the National Treasury and Economic Planning, the eCitizen.go.ke shall charge a nominal access fee of fifty (KSh.50) shillings per transaction in Kenya shillings or one United States of America dollar (US$1) per transaction for foreign designated currency transactions.”
Unlike the earlier notification, which offered a flat price of Ksh 50, the latest notice bases charges on the value of the transaction.
The fees for transactions in dollars, however, have not changed from the January Gazette notification that preceded them.
The letter further recommended Kenyans to examine the list of services for which digital payments are accepted by going to www.eCitizen.go.ke.
