Education CS Ezekiel Machogu made the announcement about the form one placement for 2023 KCPE applicants. He also mentioned that the form one admissions are set for January 15, 2024. The Minister went on to say that the pupils’ reported school selections were crucial to the placement process.
According to a Facebook post screenshot, it has been disseminated that CS Ezekiel Machogu disclosed the incorporation of the students’ chosen schools in the overall placement methodology. In response to this revelation, Kenyans have expressed their opinions on the matter, with some asserting that they perceive the criteria employed in the form one selection as unjust. Concerns have been raised, suggesting the possibility of students being allocated to schools inconsistent with their gender, such as boys ending up in girls’ schools and vice versa.
However, despite their commendable performance, a significant number of these learners, residing in Temporary Places of Safety (TPS) across the country, are dissatisfied with their Form One placements. The recently released selection results revealed that some, despite their remarkable scores, have been assigned to public day secondary schools, dashing their hopes of joining their preferred institutions. Complicating matters, some of these learners admitted to day schools face challenges attending due to various child protection issues.
Given these opinions, there is a demand for the government to be transparent about the exact standards that are used during the placement process. In order to eliminate any doubts and guarantee a just and equitable form one placement for the 2023 KCPE students, many are pleading with the authorities to clarify the process.
