Kenya will send 2500 nurses to Saudi Arabia
According to Florence Bore, Cabinet Secretary for Labor and Social Protection, Kenya would sent 2,500 nurses to Saudi Arabia around the middle of January 2024.
Speaking on Thursday, CS Bore stated that the signing of a new bilateral labor agreement (BLA) between Kenya and the Gulf country, which established new guidelines for the export of human resources, encouraged the initiative.
“Our goal is to expedite the migrant worker process. We want to make sure that we select the appropriate group of employees, handle them professionally, and stay in touch with them after they get there. Additionally, we’ll learn about the conditions of their contracts,” said Bore.
Bore further noted that the opportunities for the nurses, both diploma and degree graduates in nursing, were secured during her recent visit to Saudi Arabia.
“We are processing them and we should be able to be done by the middle of January and send them to Saudi.”
To achieve a seamless process, Bore said that she has met a labour recruiting agency from Saudi Arabia which will be touring various recruiting agencies in the country.
The labour CS added that the meeting will also involve government representatives and private recruitment agencies.
The nation intends to export more labor in the future through the agreed BLA.
“We’re excited to welcome additional Kenyans and send off migrant laborers heading to Saudi Arabia. We’re even excited about getting a desk at the airport,” she said.
Thus far, Kenya has sent approximately 200,000 skilled and domestic laborers to the Gulf nation.
