Scholarships will be awarded to students with scores of 280 and above, especially those who are marginalized and at risk, according to Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu. These government scholarships will help 14,426 students in total.
Candidates with special needs and disabilities who scored 280 or lower, as well as refugees who scored 240 (for girls) or 250 (for boys), will receive special attention.
These scholarships, known as Elimu scholarships, are provided in collaboration with the Jomo Kenyatta Foundation and the Equity Group Foundations, bringing the total number of recipients to 52,000.
CS Machogu shared this information during the official release of secondary school placement results for the 2023 Kenya Certificate of Primary School Education (KCPE) exam. The Form One selection results were announced on Monday, December 18, just a month after the release of the 2023 KCPE exam results.
1,400,329 of the 1,406,557 pupils who took the KCPE exam were able to get admission to different high schools around the nation. 42,927 pupils have been assigned to national schools by the government; the top scorers are 20,876 females and 22,051 boys.
Furthermore, although 288,201 pupils will attend county schools, 274,746 students will attend extra-county schools. With 792,230 students, sub-county schools were assigned the greatest number of Form One students.
2,225 pupils will be admitted to special needs schools, where placement will be determined by merit, individual preference, and disability categories.
Notably, applicants with a score of 400 or higher were sent to extra-county or national schools of their choice; other candidates, on the other hand, were assigned to county or sub-county schools based on predetermined parameters.
Through government scholarships, this effort seeks to uplift and promote underprivileged and vulnerable students by giving them access to high-quality education.
