Uhuru Meets Raila Amid Disquiet in Azimio

Leader of Azimio la Umoja Raila Odinga  and former president Uhuru Kenyatta met  on Monday, and the meeting is now widely  seen as an assurance of a powerful  opposition coalition.

Two images of the two leaders and other Kiambu County Jubilee Party members  were leaked by insiders.

“Uhuru Kenyatta and Hon. Raila Odinga meeting Jubilee leaders from Kiambu County, and other party leaders this evening,” shared Pauline Njoroge, the Jubilee Party Deputy Organising Secretary.

Although the public has yet to know the purpose of the meeting, gatherings attended by the two coalition heads have been rare in recent months.

Just this week, members of the opposition had also accused the former Head of State of forging an alliance with President William Ruto.

The former head of state had meetings with the ambassadors of three first-world nations in a few weeks: Zhou Pingjian, the Chinese ambassador to Kenya;  Meg Whitman, the US ambassador; and Neil Wigan, the British high commissioner  to Kenya.

Every meeting was held at his office in Nairobi. Azimio leaders over the weekend accused him of entertaining leaders who were  rumored to have backed President William Ruto, reading mischief into his meetings. Kaluma said, “Why is (former) President Uhuru Kenyatta meeting people who rigged  our 2022 presidential elections?” “Remove US Ambassador Meg Whitman and her Western associates.”

However, political analyst Mutahi Ngunyi is not persuaded that Uhuru and Raila’s  most recent meeting guarantees a fierce opposition.

Rather, he charged that the former President was simply keeping the former Prime  Minister occupied at the expense of providing no real advantages.

“Rocking chair politics.” While keeping him occupied, Uhuru is not advancing Raila. What will he do with him now if he is unable to make him president in 2022? He said, “This is a trap, and if I’m wrong, I don’t choose to be right.”

“Azimio has passed away. It was the greatest swindle in our political annals. Given that Jubilee is also deceased, Raila need to concentrate on ODM. He ought to inform Uhuru that “it’s business, nothing personal.”
