Armed Men Open Fire on Thika Road
After being confronted by an internet taxi driver who demanded payment for a hit-and-run, armed men abandoned a Prado near Kahawa Wendani on Thika Road.
According to eyewitnesses, the armed men started shooting on Sunday night when the Prado went off the road and collided with a rail guard.
Shortly before, the motorist struck a cab that was waiting for a customer in Juja while speeding on the highway. After that, the driver took off, but not before haggling with the cab driver about how to make up for the harm he had caused.
The cab driver, enraged by the situation and his perceived haughtiness, stepped on the accelerator and led the Prado on a highway pursuit from Juja to Kahawa Wendani.
The taxi driver did not cooperate and continued to endanger his life as the other passengers in the car began to shoot in the air during the chase. The cab driver said he heard someone screaming for rescue from inside the Prado amid the deafening gunfire. He claimed to have seen the victim wearing a white vest even though he was driving at full speed.
The Prado driver was compelled to cause an accident and leave the car’s occupants vulnerable to an advancing mob as a result of his efforts to obtain compensation and save the victim.
According to reports, the three armed individuals—two men and one woman—jumped out of the truck, stole a boda rider, and then used the motorcycle as a getaway vehicle.
Before the taxi driver could close in on them, they pulled out their firearms and made the boda rider run for cover on the highway.
When a semblance of normalcy was reestablished, locals hurried over to the Prado and discovered a man who they thought was the car’s owner tied up. The armed men were accused of robbing the man of his Prado, kidnapping him, and holding him captive in order to extract a ransom from his family.
Before police came and began investigating the accident, kidnapping, and hit-and-run cases, the residents freed him from the boot. A auto dealer had already reported the Prado and his two associates stolen.
The businessman claims that the two guys vanished on Friday after taking the Land Cruiser to a prospective customer for inspection. “There is a dark side to our business: kidnappers and/or carjackers. For action, the appropriate authorities have been notified.
He continued by saying that on Saturday, December 2 at 7:50 p.m., the matter was reported to the Kasarani Police Station. The businessman revealed to Kenyans.co.ke on Monday that although the second colleague was still missing, the kidnapped man had been found safe and sound despite being tied behind the car.
