Interviews for TSC Promotions to Proceed in 276 Sub-Countries

The planned teacher promotion interviews in about 276 sub-counties will take place as scheduled on Monday, December 4, 2023. The Teachers Arena has been informed that the exercise can now go forward in areas that are less affected by the El Nino rains, despite the Commission having originally suspended it owing to its impacts.

The purpose of these promotion interviews is to fill the 36,505 positions for promotions in primary and secondary schools that were posted in September of this year. From December 4 to December 15, 2023, interviews for primary school teachers in job groups C1 through C4 will be held in several sub-counties. However, interviews for regions like Makueni, Garissa, Marsabit, and Isiolo counties that are deemed risky because of the continuous rains have been rescheduled till a new date is announced.

Beginning with the first round of interviews, C1 instructors are vying for 10,819  Senior Teacher II (C2) places in conventional schools and 700 slots in special  schools. Original national ID cards, academic and professional certificates, appointment  letters to the current grade and post, subject results in KCPE/KCSE examinations  for the last three years, performance appraisal reports for 2020, 2021, and 2022,  and any other pertinent testimonials supporting performance are among the  specific documents that the Commission has specified must be presented during  the December promotion interviews.

Approximately 150,000 primary and secondary school teachers were shortlisted and issued interview letters to compete for the 36,505 vacancies. Secondary school teachers will undergo interviews next year, running from January 3 to 16, 2024. C2 teachers will vie for 3,040 slots for Senior Teacher I (C3) positions in regular primary schools and 346 slots for special schools. C3 teachers will compete for 1,930 slots for Deputy Headteacher II (C4) positions in regular primary schools. Deputy Headteachers in C4 will strive to fill 1,049 Headteacher positions in C5 for regular primary schools and 30 for special schools.

This interview procedure is significant since it is the first time interviews for the promotion of school administrators are held in sub-counties, and it features a record number of teachers who have been shortlisted for promotion by TSC.
