The eight-month-old baby is fortunate to be alive because she was thrown into the Indian Ocean by her mother, but coast guards and other people responded quickly to save her. In a statement released on Sunday, the Kenya Red Cross said that the youngster had been saved and was being treated with specialized medical care at the Kenya Red Cross Rescue Center.
“An 8-month-old child, miraculously saved after a distressing incident in the Indian Ocean, is now safe at the Kenya Red Cross Rescue Center. “Thanks to swift action and our heartfelt gratitude to the rescue team,” read the statement by Kenya Red Cross in part.
Social media users shared a video of emergency personnel donning floaters and jumping into the sea as soon as the disaster happened.Kenyans were incensed by the occurrence and demanded that the parent be punished.
“This is completely unacceptable—we’ve lost a young person once more,” said someone who was offended by the event.”I respect that although humans are capable of being callous toward one another, they can also move to protect those who have been wronged by that same callousness. Sometimes even putting their own lives in danger,” another person said.
“The mother ought to be given a life sentence and incarcerated for the rest of her days. A commenter using by the name Mwangi stated, “Wondering if struggling with her kid was better than rotting in prison.”Kenyan rules provide that if an adult or anybody older than 14 is found guilty of killing a kid, they could spend the rest of their life in prison.
In a case similar to this one, the judge in 2021 found the woman guilty of capital murder and sentenced her to life in prison after she drowned her four sons and one daughter.
However, after it was determined that she had severe postpartum depression and psychosis, she was later ruled not guilty via the appeals process.Her husband had pushed her to have children in spite of her psychiatrist’s warnings about her postpartum illness, the court learned.
