Shortly after taking the day’s exam in Matungulu, Machakos County, on Friday, a KCSE candidate drowned.According to Peter Omondi, the commander of Matungulu subcounty police, the youngster perished in a dam in the Matuu area of the subcounty.According to Omondi, the drowning incidence was reported to the police command at the subcounty headquarters, which is KBC police station.
“We have a drowning incident. Our officers are on the ground attending to the scene,” Omondi told the Star by phone on Friday.The deceased is said to have been in company of four other boys when the tragedy struck.
Raphael Musyoki, the assistant chief of Matuu, verified the allegations, pointing out that the youngster drowned while the five were snapping photographs near the dam.
“The five had just finished their tests today when they started taking pictures. Unbeknownst to them, a calamity would hit while they were making their way home from school, Musyoki remarked. “They recently completed the KCSE examinations and attend Matuu Wendano Secondary School. They made a fun stop by the dam to snap some photos. Unfortunately, one of the youngsters slipped, drowned in the water, and went down,” he continued. The other four, according to Musyoki, fled after seeing the incident. “I told the police after learning about the occurrence. While we look for the body, we are attempting to empty the dam,” he stated.
The administrator said a bulldozer had been deployed to help in the operations.The body was yet to be retrieved by press time.
