KUPPET to Sue TSC Over Exam Cheating

Akelo Misori, the secretary general of the Kenya Union of Post Primary School Teachers (KUPPET), has threatened to sue the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) if the commission decides to sanction school administrators who are suspected of engaging in test misconduct.Misori stated their plan to pursue legal action in order to expose the truth and accused the TSC of intimidating head teachers on the basis of claims of exam misconduct.

Misori asserted that legal action is necessary, as it would compel involved parties to present evidence in court. He called for Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu, TSC, and the Kenya National Examination Council to be held accountable if the matter progresses to court.

Furthermore, Misori deemed it an inconvenient move for teachers and questioned  the Ministry’s choice to move supervisors to various exam centers throughout the  national exam time. He emphasized how little thought was given to the disruption that frequent  transfers produce.

KUPPET expressed unhappiness with the alleged mistreatment of instructors offering excellent services in several schools through Misori and KUPPET Meru Executive Secretary Peter Karuti. Karuti also underlined the necessity for elementary school administrators to treat teachers in Junior Secondary Schools (JSS) well.

As preparations for the 2023 national exams got under way, TSC CEO Nancy Macharia issued a warning in a circular on August 7th, 2023, regarding possible exam misconduct. She threatened severe disciplinary action against any teacher discovered to be complicit in the malpractice.
