Senators Pile on CS Machogu Over Exam Cheating in Kisii
A group of senators from Azimio criticized Education Cabinet Secretary Ezekiel Machogu on Saturday, arguing that the Kisii region has been unfairly singled out while the government continues to crack down on educators, administrators, and exam center managers who have been proven to have encouraged exam cheating.
Speaking in the West Mugirango Constituency’s New Dawn SDA Church, the senators questioned the veracity of the recent busts, arguing that it was improbable that the majority of cheating cases would be found in a single locale.
The lawmakers, led by Nyamira Senator Okong’o Omogeni, claimed that the claims of cheating in the Kisii region were untrue and had a detrimental effect on the kids. “Machogu is from here, and having grown up here, he is familiar with us.” “Until when will we be called exam cheaters?” The Omogeni asked.
We anticipate that as the Education CS, he will stand up for the Gusii Community. We didn’t do anything improper. Senate minority leader and Kilifi senator Stewart Madzayo continued, saying the accusations were casting the area in a negative way.
Madzayo clarified that the government was trivializing the effort parents put in to get their kids to school and battled to pay for their education. “Kitui Senator Enock Wambua continued, ‘If Kisii students have studied hard, passed exams, and topped the country, please just give them the opportunity to celebrate their victory.”
Senator Eddy Oketch of Migori joined the discussion and said that the administration of President William Ruto was shattering the hopes and emotions of young students in the Kisii region. Several instructors have been suspended due to anomalies in the KCSE exams, which have put Kisii and Nyamira region under pressure.
The principal of Nyambaria High School was suspended on November 8 due to . claims of irregularities in exams. Due to attempts at exam cheating, two other principals from Nyamira County were also suspended from their roles as exam center managers.
