PDP and Labour Party Request Imo Gov. Election Cancellation
The Imo State governorship election, which was scheduled for this Saturday, has been put off by the Peoples Democratic Party and the Labour Party.
The PDP’s candidate for governor, Samuel Anyanwu, demanded on Saturday night that the election be canceled.
He said that members of the All Progressives Congress and officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission were helped by security personnel to rig the election by manipulating the results. Anyanwu declared that the election should be canceled and pledged not to accept the results.
Similar accusations were made by Tony Nwulu, the LP’s deputy governorship candidate, during a press conference, who claimed that security personnel were supporting Governor Hope Uzodimma.
Nwulu claimed that election materials were sent to the secretariats of every local government area in the state, where the results were altered. Nwulu declared, “Imo State did not hold an election on Saturday. The electoral materials were redirected to the LGA council headquarters and individual households.
The actors in all of this were protected by the army, police, and DSS. “The Imo people rejected them when they showed up at the polling places with enormous sums of money to buy votes. They have now turned to stealing voting materials, directing them to people’s houses, and stealing them all to the LGA headquarters, where they are currently manipulating the results.
“In all of these shameful activities, the APC members and INEC employees are being protected by the police, army, and DSS. All the records are with us. We are informing Nigerians that Imo state did not hold an election on Saturday. “The position of our party and my principal, Senator Athan Achonu, who is the governorship candidate of the party in Imo state is that this sham called election be cancelled, outright.”
