5,368 result sheets were lost in a boat mishap, and a Supervisory Polling Officer (SPO) assigned to work the Saturday governorship poll in Bayelsa State has been kidnapped. The state’s Sagbama Local Government Area’s Registration Area-06 (Ossioma) is where the SPO was assigned.
According to a statement released by the Independent National Electoral Commission, Bayelsa State Office, he was kidnapped at Amassoma Jetty while waiting to board a boat. Additionally, it was discovered that people of the town were alarmed and terrified by the intermittent gunshots that occurred in the Brass Local Government Area on Saturday at around three in the morning.
According to a statement signed by Mr. Wilfred Ifogah, Head of Voter Education and Publicity, the accident claimed 5,368 result sheets that were being transported to ward 17 (Koluama) in the state’s southern region.
“We would like to confirm that a boat transporting election personnel to Registration Area-17 (Koluama) in Southern Ijaw LGA overturned,” the statement read. Thankfully, no lives were lost as the boat operator and all 12 election workers were saved.
“However, we misplaced our result sheets, power banks, and staff members’ personal belongings in the luggage. “There are 5,368 registered voters overall in the impacted Registration Areas, and 5311 PVCs have been obtained.
INEC is working to guarantee that the elections in the impacted area are conducted properly. According to INEC, security services were alerted about the SPO’s kidnapping so that rescue operations could start.
