At least five Islamic State of the West African Province (ISWAP) members are alleged to have died during a vigorous clearance operation in Yobe State, northeastern Nigeria, according to the Nigerian Army on Friday. But there was also a report of one soldier being slain.
During a gunfight at the Mulumti General Area of Buni Gari, the forces of 27 Task Force Battalion, Sector 2 Operation Hadin Kai, reportedly naturalized the terrorists, while several were said to have escaped with bullet wounded.
“One Conqueror APC, four Ak47 rifles with four extra magazines, one GPMG, one NSVT Gun, one Baofeng radio, and 150 quantities of 12.7 MM rounds among others” were among the ammunition that the troops had taken.
Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency specialist and security analyst in the Lake Chad region, was informed by intelligence sources that the terrorists were forced to retreat into the bush by the army’ overwhelming firepower, which overpowered them.
“Five terrorists were killed while others are believed to have fled with gunshot wounds,” according to sources. “Unfortunately, one soldier paid the supreme price after the troops encountered an Improvised Explosive Device planted by the terrorists in the withdrawal route of the troops,” he said.
