Julius Malema Disses Ruto
Julius Malema, the leader of the Economic Freedom Fighter (EFF) party in South Africa, has criticized President William Ruto for not keeping his promises made during the election.
Speaking on Thursday at Lukenya University for the opening of the Pan African Institute, the opposition leader said he had lost his identity in Ruto because of his shift from his pre-election views.
He specifically mentioned Ruto’s pledge to dedollarize, which he has been advocating for among his African colleagues. Notably, after Ruto emerged victorious in the 2022 election, Malema was one of the opposition leaders in Africa to declare his backing for the Head of State.
“President William Ruto spoke a lot, but I can’t seem to find him right now because his statements from the election campaigns don’t align with his current actions. They are distinct entities,” he said. “He said that we need to do away with the dollar and build our own currency but his actions are not speaking anything to doing away with the dollar.”
However, Malema took issue with Ruto’s government’s treatment of King Charles III and Queen Camila during their State visit last week. Malema contends that more ought to have been done by the Kenyan government to force the King to express regret to Kenyans for the horrors carried out by British officials during the colonial era.
It is our responsibility to stay on course. We owe it to the King and Britain to remind them of what they did to us,” he continued. “The King does, in fact, exhibit no regret. He says, “It should never have happened,” stopping short of saying, “I’m sorry.” He believes that being king elevates him.”
Malema urged Ruto to maintain his resolve and advance Kenya’s foreign policy while defending the interests of the African continent. “The Kenyan government needs to make the decision to support colonialism or to be pan-Africanist. Malema said, “You can’t have it both ways.
