Section of Kirima family denies negotiations
A beneficiary of the 1000-acre Njiru farm owned by former Starehe MP Gerishon Kirima has denied any illicit negotiations between leaders, citizens, and estate management. One of the beneficiaries, Bishop Gathoni Kirima, Kirima’s daughter, cautioned during a press conference held on Saturday at a hotel in Nairobi that the family has not designated anyone to represent them in any negotiations.Although they are eager to speak with the present residents of the land, she stated that this will only happen when an assessment of the ground condition has been made.
If a settlement with the victims is reached, the land will be sold for its current market worth, according to Gathoni. The beneficiaries want their land returned, and that is what we want the public to know. Negotiations are not yet underway.” “Everyone who want to engage in negotiations on the issue must involve all beneficiaries. Nobody is going to bargain on their behalf. She stated, “No one has been assigned by us to negotiate on their behalf. She claimed that even though Teresia Wairimu and Ann Wangari are the Kirima Estate’s administrators, they are not permitted to speak for the beneficiaries.
Kirima’s daughter is Anne, and his widow is Teresia. All of the recipients are now adults. They are able to bargain on their own. As far as I am aware, no beneficiary has designated a person to head the negotiations,” Gathoni stated. She went on to defend the father’s purchase of the land, claiming that it was the result of his laborious efforts. “In 1977, our father purchased the land. This was an asset acquired via arduous labor rather than a political token.” “We are delighted this long-standing issue has come to an end, we thank God and the Judiciary for upholding the sanctity of title.” Attorney Evans Ondieki accompanied Gathoni as he spoke at the news conference.
Ondieki said the family had accepted Former Nairobi Governor Mike Sonko to the victims in the negotiations owing to the huge political interests the matter has attracted.“We have decided to appoint Mike Sonko to be the champion who will address the interests of beneficiaries. He has been successful in Waitiki, South B and another Kirima property in Parklands,” stated Ondieki.Gathoni stated that the family intends to conduct a land survey to establish the worth of the piece of land.
She added that they are pursuing payment at market value from individuals who have illegally occupied the land. Gathoni claims that their father originally purchased the 470 hectares of land, after which the family moved in and created an abbotteur. She noted that the family added to their holdings throughout time by purchasing additional land. According to Gathoni, the land has already been given to legitimate beneficiaries. “Justice Isaac Lenaola determined who the real landowners were. Ten years ago, this case was settled, and each recipient received their just part, the speaker stated.
On those challenging the plan, she said “that is their constitutional right but as it stands, the matter is already decided upon and the land is now”.
Environment and Land Judge Samson Okong’o found Kirima to be the rightful owner of the disputed property that was being claimed by numerous people.
The court also gave another group 90 days to purchase some portions of the property from the administrators of the estate who are Teresia Wairimu Kirima and Anne Wangari Kirima.
The group had earlier bought the land from Kirima but the legal processes had not been exhausted.
“It is my finding from the evidence on record that Kirima issued receipts for the payments made for the purchase of portions of the land in the name of Embakasi ring road developers,” Okong’o said.
