Teachers Pension Processing To Be Moved From Treasury To TSC

The management of teachers’ retirement benefits is to undergo a major overhaul,  according to a recent development supported by the Kenya National Union of  Teachers (KNUT). KNUT Secretary General Collins Oyuu voiced his worries during a meeting at Kitui Teachers Training College. The main problem is the annoyance that teachers feel from the corruption and lag in the current payment system, which is managed by the National Treasury’s Pensions Director.

Oyuu drew attention to the process’ contradiction. After 35 years of service and salary from the instructors Service Commission (TSC),  instructors who retire are handed up to the National Treasury, an organization that  has no personal connection to each teacher.

The union has made a proposal to the Kenyan Parliament in an effort to remedy this problem. The CEO of TSC, Dr. Nancy Macharia, has blamed the National Treasury for pension payment delays, stressing that TSC makes sure that paperwork is completed on time and sent to the Director of Pensions. During a session with the Senate committee, Ezekiel Machogu, Cabinet Secretary for Education, encouraged TSC to streamline the pension processing procedure.

Collins Oyuu emphasized the need of openness in a number of contexts, such as  the Contributory Pension Plan, Provident Fund, and National Social Security Fund  (NSSF). Additionally, he advocated equitable treatment for educators from specific  corporations and opposed what he perceived to be a “covert” delocalization of  instructors. Oyuu stressed KNUT’s power over teachers and appealed to other unions to accept  their jurisdiction, all the while expressing support for moves aimed at reforming  the education sector.

The difficulties teachers confront and the inequalities in the pension system have given rise to the movement to move pension processing to TSC and have prompted a review aimed at creating a safer and more effective mechanism for preserving teachers’ retirement benefits. Please like and share this article with your friends and colleagues if you thought it was informative.
