A group of Wajir Members of County Assembly were caught in the path of the persistent floods when their car was partially flooded by the intense downpour. The MCAs could be heard asking for assistance while perched atop a pick-up truck in a now-viral video.
By the time the MCAs began calling out for assistance and begging the authorities to come to their aid, a large portion of the car was under water due to flooding. One of them cried out, “We need to be rescued.”
Reports indicate that the MCAs were on a fact-finding mission, to map out areas prone to flooding when the incident occurred.The MCAs could be seen clinging to firm parts of the pickup as they waited to be rescued.
One of the truck’s occupants, having given up on being rescued in time, was observed prepared to brave his way through the floods in a desperate attempt to save himself.According to a weather advisory issued by the Kenya Meteorological Department, Wajir is among the areas predicted to have significant rainfall this weekend.
The Wajir tragedy happened two days after a truck driver and his passengers were saved by a helicopter on Thursday after the truck was swamped in torrential floods after a significant amount of rain.The driver in Samburu County tried to maneuver through the swiftly flowing waters, but the force of the raging water flow overwhelmed him.
The people inside tried to survive by climbing out the window as the truck sank under the water.In the meantime, there will be a lot of rain in the upcoming weeks throughout a lot of the country, according to the Meteorological Department.
