Tuesday saw the beating of a senior police officer at the Brooke Police Station in Kericho County by a younger officer who had been accused of misusing station property. The incident began when Police Constable Gideon Kipng’etich called Senior Sergeant Caleb Manani to inquire as to why the latter had accused him of using the station’s computer for personal purposes, which later developed a technical malfunction, according to a police report filed under OB 09/31/10/2023.
Kipng’etich asked Manani to back up his claims throughout the call. According to the police report, Manani was asked to meet at the police station by Kipng’etich in order to provide evidence for his assertions.The senior sergeant confronted Kipng’etich when he arrived at the police station, sparking a furious altercation between the two officers.Kipng’etich shoved Manani to the ground during the altercation and started pounding him in the face. Manani suffered damage to his nose and mouth as a result.
The wounded officer was then sent to Kericho Referral Hospital for medical attention.”He broke the station printer, an Epson L3110 valued at Ksh30,000, during the altercation. A portion of the police report stated, “The injured officer was sent to Kericho Referral Hospital, where he received treatment and was later released in stable condition.
Since then, officers from the Brooke Police Station have opened an investigation into Kipng’etich’s actions.The goal of the investigations is to determine if the officer disregarded Section 64 of the Police Act, which mandates that all officers follow the Code of Regulations and Standing Orders during the term of their employment.
