IMF, World Bank’s Role Is Rejected by ODM
The Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) is against the Kenya Kwanza team’s decision to bring in experts from the World Bank and International Monetary Fund (IMF) to discuss topics related to the economy and cost of life. The political party claimed in a statement released on Monday that the two organizations had previously given recommendations that exacerbated the issues facing the nation.
“We express profound concern regarding the participation of institutions such as the World Bank and IMF for expert input,” stated a portion of the statement.The two establishments were scheduled to provide professional advice on how to handle the nation’s high cost of living.
ODM has made it clear that it would not budge and won’t accept any agreement that doesn’t meet living expenses. The opposition wants to discuss the high cost of living before reaching an agreement on other agenda items during Tuesday’s scheduled talks.
The party feels that resolving issues impacting Kenyans is critical to the negotiations’ success. We are concerned about the opposition’s recent attempts to minimize how important it is to address the expense of living. Parts of the statement said, “We must underscore that the high cost of living is our top concern and is non-negotiable for us.
ODM also chastised the government for raising the cost of necessities like fuel, which has put more of a strain on the populace. ODM also voiced concerns about the additional levies that were introduced.
Since August, negotiations between co-principal of Azimio Kalonzo Musyoka and Kikuyu Member of Parliament Kimani Ichung’wah have been ongoing. The creation of the positions of opposition leader and prime cabinet secretary was decided upon by the two parties during their most recent meeting.
