Masai Mara Entry Fees Tripled
Following a contentious four months of discussion, the Narok County Government has increased entry prices to Masai Mara National Park thrice. With effect from January 2024, adult Kenyan citizens would now pay Ksh3,000 instead of Ksh1,000 under the revised rates. Students and children will pay Ksh1,000 instead of Ksh300.
On the other hand, inhabitants of Narok will pay Ksh2,000 for adults and Ksh500 for children over the age of 10, with free admission for those under 10. Residents of East Africa will pay Ksh4,500 (adults) in the region. The charges for students and children were set at Ksh2,000 each.
In contrast, foreign rates went up to Ksh15,060 (USD100) in January through June and Ksh30,120 (USD200) for the remainder of the year. Students and children from other countries will be required to pay Ksh 7,530.
“Narok County Government has confirmed that the Masai Mara Park Fees for 2024 will be increased to USD 100 per non-resident adult per day from January 1, 2024, to June 30, 2024, and USD 200 per non-resident adult per day, from July 1 2024 onwards,” according to a notification on its website. “These increased rates were a proposal but have now been confirmed by the County Government as of mid-October 2023.”
The county administration also stated that whether or not visitors live inside the park will have an impact on reserve costs. The entrance charge for all visitors living inside the main national reserve for the duration of 2023 is Ksh6,024 (USD40) each child under 12 years old and Ksh 10,542 (USD70) per adult per day.
The amount given to those who live outside is Ksh6,777 for kids and Ksh12,048 for adults. Kenyan adults will no longer pay Ksh1,000 as of 2024; children and students, who previously paid Ksh300, will now pay Ksh1,000. Residents of East Africa will be required to pay Ksh 1,200 (adults) and Ksh 500 (children and students) for the remainder of 2023.
The cost will increase to Ksh2,000 for children and students, and Ksh4,500 for adults. Less than six-seater cars must pay Ksh500; six- to twelve-seater cars should pay Ksh1,000; and vans with twelve to twenty-four seats should pay Ksh3,000. Cars having 44 seats or fewer will forfeit Ksh4,000.
