To allow for public input on a plan created by the Kajiado County Assembly, Justice Maxwell Gicheru ordered that the plots’ titling be discontinued. The Olkejuado County Council owned the disputed lands, and instances of double allocation caused the titling to be delayed.
The judge ruled that “the county attorney and department of land should take responsibility for the survey and titling process.”In Kajiado, several parcels lack ownership titles for more than 40 years, leaving buyers vulnerable to brokers and con artists who deceive Kenyans.
The directive is issued at a time when houses constructed on allegedly appropriated land in the Athi River are being demolished across the nation.More than 300 homeowners on the late Gerishon Kirima’s Njiru land were ordered by a Kisumu court to abandon their homes by December 31 and give the land to the former MP’s family at the beginning of this week.
While some homeowners have been squatting illegally, others assert that they possess the original ownership paperwork. Since the beginning of the year, Kajiado County has been trying to regularize the majority of the parcels in the area in an effort to tidy up the mess left behind by the former municipal council.
The procedure was further delayed when certain landowners tried to halt the exercise, despite the fact that consultants had been hired by the county authorities and officials of the National Land Council (NLC) to assist with it.
Land is a contentious topic in the nation, with billions of dollars lost each year in legal disputes and fraud involving real estate.Land scams are widespread, particularly in metropolitan regions; Nairobi and its satellite cities account for the majority of Kenyans who lose their money to con artists.
