Prior to Mashujaa Celebrations, 6 people were hurt in Kericho
In a stampede at Kericho Green Stadium before the Mashujaa fete that will be presided over by President William Ruto, at least six persons, including a youngster, were hurt.
The rush may be related to the county’s support for Ruto, who received a resounding majority of the vote there in the most recent elections. The six patients have been taken urgently to Kericho County Referral Hospital for care. At nine in the morning, Ruto is anticipated at the location.
Following the incident, police were compelled to step in and establish order at the gates. Due to the muddy pavements outside the stadium that were created by the torrential rain that fell on Thursday evening and into the night, this was challenging.
Residents reported that when thousands attempted to enter the stadium, which can hold 10,000 people, the mobovercame the police. According to the Ministry of Sports, the stadium was recently rebuilt for the occasion at a cost of Ksh400 million.
The stadium was already completely full at 6 a.m., and thousands of Kenyans were still waiting outside. At the 60th anniversary celebration of the day set aside to honor the nation’s heroes, Ruto is scheduled to arrive at the event at 9 a.m.
The President is also anticipated to declare the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) program open for business. Today will also see the public introduction of the Community Health Volunteers (CHVs) initiative. The CHVs will be entrusted with visiting homesteads to provide Kenyans with basic medical care as part of the initiative.
