Turkana Governor pushed out by ODM
Jeremiah Napotikan Lomorukai, the governor of Turkana, has received a letter from the Orange Democratic Movement asking for his expulsion due to his connections to President William Ruto.
A private citizen named Gad Aguko denounced the Governor for his comments made at the Turkana Cultural Festival, in which he brashly declared that he had defected to UDA, in a letter dated October 18 that was addressed to the party through his attorney Abdikadir Osman.
Aguko claims that the governor’s comments were made with the objective of embarrassing and mocking the ODM party and its leader Raila Odinga.
“His said actions and utterances amount not only to a total disregard for Article 136(2) as read with 142 of the Constitution of Kenya on presidential term limits but also blatant and arrogant violations of the Party Constitution,” he said. Aguko contends that the Governor should face additional disciplinary measures in addition to having his name removed from the party membership registry.
“In this event, and should the 7-day notice period lapse without any action from your respective offices, this letter shall serve as the official complaint against the said individuals as envisioned under Article 8.4.1 of the Orange Democratic Movement party Constitution the same having been served upon the Disciplinary Committee.”
Initially, the troubled governor had vowed to back President William Ruto’s campaign for the presidency in 2027. The Governor, who was elected on the ODM party ticket, promised to mobilize six sub-counties in Turkana County to support the President in the upcoming general election while speaking at the official inauguration of the Turkana Cultural and Tourism Festival on October 12 in Lodwar town.
“I want to reassure you that I will give you the basket containing the Turkana votes. There is no agreement on that. The governor answered, “I shall deliver for you the six sub-counties. “The residents of Turkana County chose me. Who advised the people threatening the Turkana Governor that cooperating with the President is illegal?
Raila’s appearance at the Turkana Cultural Festival last Friday was rocked by turmoil as several Jubilee Party MCA officials confronted him. At the cultural festival, Raila was the featured guest when some of the attendees started to jeer the county politicians for criticizing the ODM leader. His security quickly transported him to a more secure location outside the venue, where he addressed the audience.
The community’s leaders accused Odinga of neglecting them during important appointments and criticized his selection of Winnie Odinga for the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
