The Teachers Service Commission (TSC) unveiled a proposal in October 2023 to solve the teacher shortage brought on by the departure of almost 4,000 educators in the months of July, August, and September as a result of natural attrition. Making sure that the education of pupils is not significantly disrupted is the major goal of this project.
The TSC CEO used the occasion to put any speculations about the replacement process to rest and underlined the value of patience. Once the posts are filled, the TSC will announce updates and notifications regarding these openings via its official social media channels.
The TSC will also publish a thorough list of open teaching vacancies that includes school information and topic qualifications. The TSC website will be freely available during the application process, and successful candidates should be prepared to serve in schools across the nation.
Kenyan schools continue to struggle with a teacher shortage, which is mostly attributable to the former president Uhuru Kenyatta’s 100% transformation initiative. With a critical need for some 38,054 teachers, the primary school sector is most affected by the shortfall. With a substantial teacher shortfall of around 96,000 in Kenyan schools, post-primary institutions are in an even worse situation, lacking roughly 58,291 teachers.
Additionally, there is a 5,000 teacher shortfall in Technical and Vocational Education Training Colleges. The government is aggressively attempting to enhance the general working conditions for educators across the country while also implementing measures to increase the number of instructors in public schools.
