Tough Rules On Teachers’ Annual Leave
New rules regulating the use of yearly leave have been released by the Teachers Service Commission (TSC) for the entire Secretariat personnel. The CEO of the Commission, Dr. Nancy Macharia, voiced concern over some employees’ non-compliance with Clause 57 of the Human Resource Policies and Procedures Manual 2018 in an internal memo dated October 9, 2023, and sent to all the organization’s directors.
This message highlights the requirement that all TSC Secretariat staff take their 30-day annual leave each working year. It has also been distributed to regional directors, county directors, and sub-county directors. It instructs these officers to assess and update the staff members’ upcoming leave days in their individual service areas.
Dr. Macharia stressed the importance of staff taking their annual leave in line with the Leave Roaster to ensure the smooth continuity of service delivery to teachers and other stakeholders. Senior officials are tasked with using administrative arrangements to regulate leaves effectively.
Employees who have accrued or unused leave days are encouraged to take their permitted leave as soon as possible. Those who are unable to do so because of obligations relating to their jobs must submit requests for leave deferment, and judgments will be made in accordance with the memo’s rules.
