Following an attempted attack on Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) Raila  Odinga’s security just before he landed at Lodwar Airstrip in Turkana, a prison  warder stationed in Lodwar GK prison was detained on Friday.

The incident occurred on Friday morning as police officers, under the direction  of Sub County Police Commander Lemmy Njiru, were patrolling the airstrip,  according to a police complaint filed under O/B 15/13/10/2023 at Lodwar  Police Station.

Around 11:00 a.m., the cops were sent to meet Raila and his entourage, and they  later escorted him to the Turkana Cultural Festival. But at the airstrip, a jail warder dressed in civilian attire and with a G3 gun  appeared. Later, when he approached the security team, he fired one round into the air.

The security team and SCPC Njiru sped forward  and tackled the prison warden,  pinning him to the ground. After being disarmed, the suspect was taken  into custody at Lodwar Police Station. Since then, it has come to light that the jail  warder works at Lodwar GK jail.

Detectives interrogated him at the station but were unable to determine the  incident’s cause. According to the police report, a multi-agency panel made up of detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations  (DCI) and National Intelligence Service (NIS) officials would question him further.

Before Raila Odinga encountered fierce opposition as he attempted to address  Turkana villagers at the Turkana Festival, the incident took place. After the event descended into mayhem, his security snatched him up.

This came about as a result of a dispute between Raila’s supporters and Jubilee officials who had criticized the former prime minister for ignoring the Turkana community.Turkana Central MP Joseph Emathe called the meeting to order after the commotion.

Later, Raila spoke to the crowd in front of the venue and blamed President William Ruto for his problems. The ex-prime minister said that the president incited Turkana officials to turn against him. Ruto has not yet addressed the accusations.
