On Saturday morning, Mike Sonko, a former governor of Nairobi, revealed that during a manhunt by the Directorate of Criminal Investigations, Brian Mwenda, a sought fake lawyer, was lodged in his offices in Mombasa. Sonko also offered to take the suspect to the DCI office on Kiambu Road so that he could record a statement.
The former Nairobi governor is seen standing next to Mwenda in a video that he posted on his social media platforms on October 14, 2023, urging the latter to reveal locations. “This guy is going to be saved by us. DCI, we will bring this man to your offices, most likely on Monday or Tuesday, so that he can provide a statement, said Mike Sonko.
Sonko further revealed, “If there are any charges to be filed against him, that’s okay as he is ready to be arraigned in court,” adding that Mwenda was prepared to face the law at any costs.The accused, on the other hand, asserted that he was prepared to establish his innocence.
In the video Sonko posted, the accused stated, “I am ready to provide the actual context of what is really happening because it should be inconceivable to anyone with a brain that I have all this prowess.”The former governor invited his friends and well-known attorneys to support Mwenda and support him in any legal argument that will be made. Sonko reassured him, “You are in good hands, don’t worry kijana, we will submit you to the DCI. “I have checked his identity card and he is a young boy,” he stated.
After stealing the identity of a licensed attorney, Brian Mwenda was charged with impersonating a Nairobi-based attorney. His qualifications were identified by the Law Society of Kenya, which also charged that he had misled unwitting clients and damaged the association’s reputation.
The accused, who was discovered to have practiced law without a license, was invited by LSK to be located and detained by DCI. According to reports, Mwenda studied criminology at Chuka University.
