Jubilee MCAs Face Raila in Lodwar, Leading to Chaos
A group of Jubilee Party MCA leaders challenged former prime minister Raila Odinga during his Friday speech at the Turkana Cultural Festival, which was marred by chaos. When some participants started to jeer the county politicians for criticizing the ODM leader, Raila was the event’s main guest.
He was quickly taken to a safer location outside the theater by his security assistant, where he addressed the audience. The nomination of Winnie Odinga to the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA) was used by the leaders to argue that Raila had overlooked the community in important appointments.
Before Raila could address the audience, Turkana Central MP Joseph Emathe called an end to the gathering due to the mounting tension. Due to this, some ODM supporters broke into the podium and demanded that the ceremony go on as scheduled. “There will be no more addresses here, and I have said that as the Turkana Central MP,” he continued.
Prior to that, Lodwar Township MCA Ruth Kuya alleged that Raila had not returned the affection and encouragement shown to him by the neighborhood.”I am proud to identify myself as a UDA MCA. I am only afraid of electricity and God. As our leader, Raila, you have our respect. We have asked to visit you. We loved you, but you didn’t love us back.”We have people who have walked with you here and instead of giving them the nomination to EALA, you gave it to your daughter,” the mayor of Turkana Town said. The unrest began a day after Jeremiah Lomorukai, the governor of Turkana and an ODM party candidate, vowed his support for President William Ruto and his government.
Just after Ruto announced the start of the Turkana Cultural Festival, Lomorukai abandoned Raila.”I’ll collaborate with you going forward. I’ll bring you votes from Turkana. There is no compromise on that, the governor vowed.
