JSS Teachers will start getting paid right after the retooling exercise
Mr. Stephen Yogo emphasized the importance of teacher capacity building and his unwavering support for it.He encouraged the group in charge of funding the retooling effort to make sure that teachers be paid right away after it is over, without further delay.
About 56,000 JSS teachers will receive retraining as part of this project in order to fit with the Competency-Based Curriculum (CBC) and Competency-Based Assessment (CBA). It should be noted that this retraining only applies to newly hired JSS instructors, not to those who have previously worked in primary schools.
In a memo dated September 26 and sent to TSC Regional and County Directors, the Commission chose instructors who specialize in language, science, mathematics, humanities, and technical areas for training. The training for grade 7 teachers began on October 9 and will end on October 13, 2023, with Master Trainer and Trainer of Trainers (TOT) training starting earlier.
Mr. Yogo also spoke about the union’s plans to plant trees in Homa Bay schools to support environmental preservation efforts in addition to educational issues. We’ll call these designated sites “KUPPET Forests.”
This training is timed to the upcoming seventh-grade national writing test that will be administered in October. The tests can easily be downloaded, printed, and given to students in schools. JSS Teachers will start getting paid right after the retooling exercise.
