Ruto’s outreach to Azimio leader
On Sunday, Azimio Principal Kalonzo Musyoka rejected President William Ruto’s appeal for Raila Odinga to back him in the 2027 election for president, finding humor in Ruto’s demand that Raila repay the Head of State for his support in 2007.Speaking to congregation members in Mwingi Township, Kitui County, Kalonzo insisted that since he had backed Raila’s political career more than President Ruto had, the former prime minister should support him in the 2027 election.
Kalonzo jokingly demanded that a poll be taken in the Nyanza region to establish who had backed Raila more out of the two.Kalonzo stated, “Today I saw the present President William Ruto announce he will contest with me in 2027.
The head of the Wiper Party announced that he will visit Kisumu soon to conduct the poll personally. This comes after President William Ruto on Saturday, October 7 requested that Raila, a former close ally, support his State House bid in 2027 in order to repay the assistance he received in 2007.
“For him to be today referred to as former Prime Minister, I am the one who helped put him in office,” Ruto said.”I was a fierce fan of Baba, and with others, we banded together to help him, but regrettably, we were unable to win the Presidency. In Homa Bay, Ruto added, “I voted for Baba, and I’m asking him to back me in 2027.Ruto claimed that no politician offers a serious danger to his bid for reelection in 2027 while oozing confidence in his chances. If Raila decides not to run, Kalonzo will be my opponent, but can he truly make a serious challenge? To the citizens of Homa Bay, President Ruto smiled.
In 2007, President William Ruto was a part of the Pentagon, a group of regional power brokers from throughout the country that supported Raila’s attempt to unseat outgoing President Mwai Kibaki.Between now until 2027, neither Raila nor Kalonzo have spoken on who will represent Azimio.
