Multimedia Students at the University of Kenya demonstrated over the HELB funds’ delay and  shut down Magadi Road.

The university was accused by the students of abruptly stopping the student portal,  which made it difficult to register for classes. Students raised issues with the lack of amenities, the condition of the campus’s  cleanliness, and the need for better Wi-Fi.

Multimedia in Kajiado Students at the University of Kenya have erupted in violence due to the Higher  Education Loans Board’s (HELB) delay in disbursing funding.

They blocked the entrance to the building while blaming the university for shutting  down the student portal before they had finished registering for classes. On Friday, October 27, the university is scheduled to have its tenth commencement  ceremony. The university is at a crossroads since the students have asked that all  pre-graduates graduate and, as a result, their results be made public.

The students claim that the institution’s ongoing water crisis also requires a long-term solution.

Additional grievances by students They said that because of student IDs, the school denied them access to some areas of the building and caused delays at the entrance. The students complain that the  university  lacks proper cleanliness, and one of  their  demands  is that the restrooms in the residential sections  be  upgraded.

The pupils bemoaned the fact that they could not sit through class in comfort  because most classrooms lacked appropriate maintenance and seating. In videos posted to the X app, they bemoaned how “comrades are demanding for  wi-fi improvement across the school.”

Student leaders were previously criticized by Embakasi East MP Babu Owino for  allegedly failing their fellow students. When the government had not yet distributed the HELB funding, the outspoken lawmaker questioned why the student leaders were remaining silent.

The ODM MP claimed the student leaders’ silence was a betrayal of the people who had chosen them to hold those positions. “HELB must act immediately! Student leaders, you are sleeping and wasting the votes of the people who elected you by misrepresenting them. You must get up, go outside, and make demo requests. Let HELB go quickly—not even a minute late, Babu remarked.

He advised the leaders to either give their resignation or organize protests against  the HELB’s delayed disbursement. Babu claimed that if it had happened during his time as a student leader, his fellow  students would already be protesting because he would never have permitted the  money to be distributed slowly.
