The Ministry of Education has warned school administrators against requiring additional remedial lessons, emphasizing that such initiatives are illegal.The Principal Secretary of Basic Education, Belio Kipsang, voiced concern that certain school administrators continue to charge parents illegal fees to cover the cost of teachers performing remedial sessions.
He questioned the need for additional teaching hours under the guise of remedial education, asserting that the ministry’s recommended teaching hours are sufficient for imparting the necessary skills and knowledge for exams.
Kipsang underlined that remedial instruction and related costs burden parents excessively and damage the credibility of such programs. On September 19, at Shimo La Tewa Secondary School in Mombasa, Obama addressed authorities from the Coast Region’s administration and the education sector.
As elementary and secondary schools get ready for impending national exams, Kipsang issues his caution. Exams for the Kenya Certificate of Primary Education (KCPE) and Kenya Primary School Education Assessment (KPSEA) will begin on October 30, while those for the Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) will begin on November 3 and end on November 24.Kipsang gave the assurance that the ministry would take action to uphold the validity of the national exams. In order to increase the credibility, validity, and reliability of this year’s national tests, he also urged educators to perform them with integrity and vigilance against any sort of misconduct.
