A local pastor who was accompanying a band of robbers was shot and killed by police in Migori County.Police said in a statement released on Friday that the pastor was a member of a nine-person gang that had been terrorizing Migori County inhabitants.
According to the story, the gang was preparing to target local businesses in Migori town when police officers set up an ambush, killing three suspects.”The three suspected thugs were slain during a furious exchange of fire in cooperation with the Criminal Investigation officers at the police headquarters.
“The officers also arrested three others in the ongoing crackdown on criminal gangs,” the police statement read in parts.The operation that was led by Migori County Police Commander Peter Kimani also saw the recovery of an AK47 rifle, bullets and other items.
Officers from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), according to the police, employed technology to locate, identify, and apprehend the suspect.According to reports, the bodies that were found at the murder site were transported to Migori Mortuary, where they would be autopsied before the victims are buried.As the police continue their sting operation against criminals in the greater South Nyanza region, the suspects who were recently detained are due in court on Friday morning.Officers have started a manhunt for three suspects who escaped the police dragnet in the interim.
To control runaway crime in the region, the National Police Service has requested members of the public to report any suspicious activity.
