University Fund application deadline extended by CS Machogu

Ezekiel Machogu, the cabinet secretary for education, stated on Wednesday that the deadline for applying for scholarships and loans for higher education had been extended by one month. The original deadline was September 7, but the new date is October 7. The purpose of the extension is to accommodate the 112,468 students. Who have not yet submitted their scholarship and loan applications. As of September 5, only 156,532 students had submitted applications for both University Fund scholarships and High Education Loans Board (HELB) loans. According to the Cabinet Secretary, this statistic only represents 60% of the students who were placed by the Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) based on their performance in the KCSE exams in 2022. “I strongly advise all qualified students to submit official loan and scholarship applications via the higher education funding portal.

The Cabinet Secretary also assured Kenyans that no student would be denied a spot in a university,because they had not paid their tuition. As soon as they receive their admissions letters, applicants are able to visit the portal and submit their applications. The Universities Fund Kenya states that a candidate must be a Kenyan citizen to be eligible for a scholarship or loan. Additionally, the aspirant must be a KCSE 2022 candidate. The Ministry of Education’s instruction to remove the requirement for an ID card also follows the deadline extension. Students can now apply without IDs by using their birth certificates as identification.

Applicants must have a working email address, a registered phone number in their name, their KCPE and KCSE index numbers. As well as the appropriate examination year, in order to be considered. Additionally, prospective students must submit a copy of their secondary school sponsorship letter. Also and their letter of admission from their college or university, if applicable. Additionally, candidates must supply information on their parents and legal guardians. For situations where a parent has died away, a death certificate must be submitted to support the claim. Candidates are divided into three groups according to the new government funding mechanism. Students who are vulnerable and in dire need of financial aid automatically receive 100% of it from the government in the form of loans and scholarships.
